Gaza: Beyond Poverty, into Oblivion

18 July 2025

The concept of a "poverty line" no longer holds meaning in Gaza. What our teams are witnessing on the ground is not poverty; it is utter destitution. Every home, every family, is now submerged in a profound state of deprivation that the human mind struggles to grasp. The criminal, genocidal actions perpetrated by the Israeli occupying forces against our people in Gaza have far surpassed anything history books could describe or images could convey. We are not just reading about a crisis; we are bearing witness to a deliberate, methodical obliteration of life and dignity.

In this horrifying reality, the work of our teams, though seemingly small against such immense suffering, is a lifeline. From July 10th to July 17th, our dedicated personnel delivered ten critical truckloads of water to the most desperate areas. This included distributions on July 10th (two trucks), July 11th (two trucks), and July 12th (three trucks), followed by an additional three trucks dispatched on July 17th to critical locations such as Palestine Stadium, Al-Burak School, and Al-Azhar Camp near the Passports office. Each truck, carrying 7,000 liters, was a beacon of hope in a parched land. As summer temperatures soar, this is a desperate measure to stave off death by thirst. The importance of this water cannot be overstated; it is the fundamental element separating our people from further agony and demise.

Our teams face relentless challenges every single day. Securing water from the few remaining stations and finding operational vehicles is a constant battle, with long queues and limited resources. Security is a perpetual nightmare; the threat of bombardment is constant, forcing our personnel to navigate deadly landscapes. "Bombardment is 24 hours a day," shared one of our team, describing a reality where simply standing straight becomes an act of endurance.

The impact on our team members is profound. They are not immune to the suffering; they live it alongside our people. As a Field Coordinator highlighted, "The daily wages they earn are barely enough to buy a kilogram of flour for the day." This isn't just about operational costs; it speaks to the crippling economic reality that has engulfed everyone. The price of a kilogram of flour has shockingly reached ₪180, or $60 after commissions, a figure that should alarm the global conscience. Our teams are hungry, exhausted, and emotionally drained. It is becoming increasingly difficult even to document and report on this unfolding tragedy, for the words feel inadequate against the scale of the horror.

The most agonizing truth is that the world watches a genocide taking full course, with no effective plan or action to fight it back. Our teams report that very few aid initiatives are able to function in Gaza these days. International organizations, burdened by their own complexities and the deliberate obstruction of aid, seem crippled, unable to alleviate the suffering on a meaningful scale. The notion that such widespread and systematic destruction of human life can occur with such global inertia is unfathomable.

This is a direct appeal to every person of sound conscience: We must mobilize now. Speak out. Demand accountability from your leaders. Take effective action. This is not a distant conflict; it is a direct assault on humanity itself. Our people are not merely numbers; they are lives being extinguished slowly, agonizingly, while the world grapples for words. Words are no longer enough. We need your voice, your pressure, and your unwavering support to demand an immediate end to this terror and ensure that aid, dignity, and life can finally return to Gaza.
